Example: Slow Reveal
A harbour-town mystery that gives up its answers in order. The Guild comes out at the inquest, the ledger only to the Warden, and the Collector stays hidden until the finale, all from one world that you run and your players read.
Keep the Clue in the Note
The inn's notes are public. The line about who rented the cellar is a secret inside them.
- Mark a sentence or a section secret
- Preview the note as a player
- One note, not two
Reveal at the Inquest
StarterThe Guild is set to come out once the story reaches The Inquest.
- Tie the reveal to an event, not a date
- Move story now after the session
- Everything tied to the Guild comes with it
One Player's Lead
StarterThe Tide Ledger is shown only to players holding the Warden role.
- Choose roles, or name players
- Each player reads their own copy
- The rest of the table never sees it
Steps
- Build the town on one relationship map: who reports to whom, who suspects whom.
- Add The Inquest as an event on your timeline.
- Set the Guild to Conditional, shown once the story reaches The Inquest.
- Set the Tide Ledger to show only to the Warden role.
- Mark the Collector hidden, and check the whole thing in player preview.
- After the inquest session, move story now past it. The Guild comes out.
Tips
- Keep the final answer plainly hidden. Reveal it by hand when the table earns it.
- If story now moves back, you choose whether what it revealed hides again or stays shown.
- Hidden things a public note mentions can show as a blank bar, or be left out entirely. Pick per world.
Slow Reveal Preview
You see the whole web: the Guild that meets at the inn, the ledger that names Kell, and the Collector the Mayor is in debt to.
A read-only preview. In the app the same conditions apply to relationships, events, eras, and the secret parts of notes, and each player is served only what is meant for them.
